Danielle Shannon, LCSW
Danielle graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Policy and completed her MSW at the University of Illinois at Chicago. More than a decade of experience in the mental health field has included outreach, advocacy, diagnostic and psychotherapy services. Danielle has specialized expertise in working with children and adolescents, which incorporates her knowledge of evidence-based interventions such as Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and draws from her experience working within the child welfare system. In addition, Danielle works with clients of all ages who are facing challenges related to life stage crises, mood disorders, interpersonal relationship issues and/or histories of trauma. Her practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral and Family Systems theories, and is influenced by Eastern philosophy.
Danielle emphasizes using treatment to build new insights and skills that can help clients manage their present distress and improve their ability to function more effectively in the future. She incorporates a variety of interventions, including mindfulness and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Danielle believes that therapy should be a collaborative process that invites clients to use their strengths and interests in art, movement, music and writing to facilitate growth and healing.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it. - Helen Keller
